The 1977 Skybird Firebird Esprit was the first of the special color and paint schemes.
It came with Skybird logo and decals that adorned the outside of the car.
The light blue also carried over into the interior of the car.
The exterior also included color coded wheels and stripes.

1977 Pontiac Firebird Esprit Skybird Edition

The first of the special Firebird Esprit.

The 1977 Skybird was modeled after the Blue Bird show car from 1976.

Here is a little of what I know about the SkyBird. Unfortunately, there wasn't any production numbers of how many of these cars were produced. Pontiac had a hard time keeping track of cars in 1977 let alone what color the cars were. I have heard some people throw numbers out there, but I have not seen any actual numbers from Pontiac in any type of writing that shows what these numbers are. Be careful when people throw production numbers at you.... ask them if they can prove it.

The "Bird's of a Different Color"

Somtimes nicknamed the "Lady Birds"

The 1977 Skybird was just the first in the series of 3 different color birds adorning the Firebird Esprit line of cars. They were called by Pontiac as the "ultimate in luxury Firebird". The 1977 Skybird was folled by the 1978 and 1979 Redbird which was then followed by the 1980 Yellowbird.
